Ukraine has a rich history of achievements in space exploration, with numerous landmarks preserving its legacy and people continuing to push the boundaries of discovery. Now, students across Ukraine are invited to participate in the Space Heritage UA competition, organized by NGO “Association Noosphere” in partnership with Planetarium Noosphere and Universe Space Tech.
In today’s world, preserving history, celebrating heroes, and fostering national pride is more important than ever. Ukraine boasts a fascinating legacy in space exploration. Names like Yuri Kondratyuk, Leonid Kadeniuk, and Sergei Korolev are etched into the history of global science. Across the country, observatories, aerospace enterprises, and museums tell the story of this legacy. Sadly, some of these treasures are now located in occupied territories, making it even more crucial to highlight and preserve Ukraine’s space heritage.
The Association Noosphere invites school students to share their perspective on Ukraine’s tangible and intangible space heritage. Submissions can focus on famous or lesser-known figures, iconic locations, buildings, museums, monuments, enterprises, or even propose ideas for preserving and enriching this legacy.
The competition is open to teenagers aged 10 to 16. Entries will be judged in five categories:
- Poster or Postcard
- Animated Video
- Audio Podcast
- Story or Essay
- Presentation
Participants can explore themes such as Ukraine’s space achievements, historical landmarks (observatories, research stations, museums, aerospace companies), prominent figures, the history of Ukrainian space exploration, and challenges related to preserving heritage in both free and occupied territories.
To join the competition, students need to register via the provided link and upload their submissions in the corresponding section. The deadline for submissions is December 15, and winners will be announced on December 19. Winners will receive certificates and prizes from the organizers.
As part of the Space Heritage UA project, a series of thematic online lectures will also be held, featuring industry experts, including contributors from the project’s media partner, New Ukrainian School. Registration is required to attend these sessions.
Detailed guidelines about categories and submission requirements can be found on the competition’s Facebook page. Updates about online and offline lectures, as well as workshops, will also be posted there.
